The European Chips Act, a landmark initiative to double the European Union share of global semiconductor production by 2030, has entered its next implementation phase after member states approved a fresh round of joint funding. The plan channels more than 43 billion euros in public and private investment toward advanced chip manufacturing, research, and pilot lines across the bloc. Officials in Brussels said the funding will prioritize strategic projects in Germany, France, Italy, and Ireland, with additional pilot facilities planned in Spain and the Netherlands. Industry leaders welcomed the decision but warned that skilled labor shortages remain a bottleneck. The Commission said it will publish a workforce strategy later this year.
