A Stockholm-based startup has launched a battery recycling pilot across three Nordic cities, aiming to recover critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel from end-of-life electric vehicle batteries. The pilot, backed by a consortium of Nordic municipalities and a Swedish energy company, will process up to 2,000 tonnes of battery material per year at a demonstration facility outside Stockholm. The startup said its hydrometallurgical process can recover more than 95 percent of critical minerals with a significantly lower carbon footprint than virgin mining. Results from the pilot are expected to inform a planned commercial facility slated for 2026.
